TUESDAY, AUGUST 10

Get through hump day by tipping your toe into the future of art appreciation. Opening tonight at 7pm at Firetti Contemporary, NFT/IRL is a revolutionary art exhibition that merges both digital and physical worlds with the aim of building bridges between crypto and IRL art. Presented by Firetti Contemporary and MORROW collective, this group exhibition is the first-of-its-kind in the region, displaying digital NFT artworks and their physical counterparts side by side, with visitors offered access to both augmented and virtual reality through innovative tech platforms installed throughout the gallery.  

Marking the beginning of their journey into crypto art, works from artists such as Ahmed Emad, Kadara Enyeasi, Irvin Pascal, Josh Rowell, Helidon Xhixha, and Fatiha Zemmouri will be on display, covering themes ranging from war and conflict to freedom and social change in styles that span from abstract to figurative. With the future the key focus, the exhibition will operate at net zero carbon, with all emissions offset through the Offsetra website. The exhibition will run until September 15.

Classic Apple Pie

To make a classic apple pie, you’ll need:

Ingredients

  • 6-7 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Add the sliced apples to the bowl and toss until they are evenly coated with the sugar mixture.
  5. Roll out the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  6. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  7. Roll out the second pie crust and place it on top of the apples. Crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  8. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  9. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  11. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 medium-sized apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, 1/4 cup sugar, and melted butter.
  3. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth.
  5. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
  6. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the graham cracker crust.
  7. Sprinkle the diced apples over the top of the cream cheese mixture.
  8. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centre is set.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
