TIP 1: Always use a primer
François Nars, the brains behind Nars Cosmetics, says, “Foundation should unify tone, but it shouldn’t take away the individuality of the skin.”
To get a natural-looking finish with bright and even skin tone, always apply a primer underneath your foundation. Primers not only help cover up the appearance of large pores but reduce shine and ensure your foundation doesn’t change tone throughout the day. Apply it with a makeup sponge instead of your fingers, which can cause a clumpy finish.

TIP 2: Always moisturise your lips
Gwyneth Paltrow says, “Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your skin. That or a kick-ass lipstick!”
For the perfect lips, to make sure they don’t look chalky, uneven and dry – scrub your lips with an exfoliator and apply a deeply moisturizing balm, oil or serum before applying lipstick.

TIP 3: Follow the E & C rule for contouring
According to Chrissy Teigen, “You can have a nose job just with contouring.”
And she’s right – for the perfect balance of light and shade, use a darker shade to start. Apply the contour on both sides of your face in the shape of an upside down E, starting from your forehead down and then on either side of your face. Next, apply a highlighter in the form of the letter C, hugging your temples from your forehead to just below the eyes. Then blend with a sponge.

TIP 4: Brighten up tired eyes with white eyeliner
If your eyes are looking tired, try adding a light shade of eyeshadow into the corner of your eyes, or white eyeliner in your lower lashline. Your eyes will immediately appear brighter and wider.

TIP 5: Apply eye makeup before foundation
If you’re going for a bold look on the eyes, be sure to apply a primer beforehand and wait for it to dry to keep your makeup looking fresh throughout the day. If you’re fresh out of primer, concealer will also do the job. And for a final tip, do your eye makeup before applying foundation – this way you can easily clean up any smudges without ruining your base.

TIP 6: Use adhesive tape for the easiest cateye
“That’s one of the things I love about makeup. You can change your whole attitude by just doing your eyeliner or lipstick differently,” says Beyoncé.
If you’re after a look with an attitude, why not go for black eyeliner à la Amy Winehouse? Try using adhesive tape! Apply at an angle, running from the outer edges of your eye to your brow, and apply liquid eyeliner. Remove the tape for a perfectly clean line.

TIP 7: Apply castor oil for perfect brows
If your eyebrows are patchy from over-plucking, try applying castor oil to promote regrowth. If you have the opposite problem and have full eyebrows, spritz hairspray on a mascara wand and use to shape. And finally, if you have no time to pluck your eyebrows into the perfect shape, apply a highlighter shade to your brow bone for extra definition.

TIP 8: Multi-use your makeup
“Don’t be afraid to experiment” are the words of advice from makeup artist Pat McGrath.
So if you have a beauty product in a favourite shade, such as a lipstick or a blush, go ahead and use it on your eyelids. Bronzers are also ideal for making eyes look bigger – apply in the crease of your eye and the lower lash line. Go ahead – mix and match!

TIP 10: Use lip liner to fake fuller lips
“Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick and pull yourself together.” These were the words of Elizabeth Taylor, and she’s got a point.
If you want to create natural-looking full lips, apply lip liner before your lipstick. Draw it on just beyond your natural lip line. Then, fill in your entire lip with the liner before applying lipstick for a longer-lasting look.
