A man and woman sitting in Theatre of Digital Art

What To Do In The UAE This Weekend?

From immersive art experiences and sustainable shopping to mind-bending yoga, there’s plenty to enjoy as the weekend arrives in Dubai…

HAVE A MONET MOMENT AND MORE…

If you’ve seen Marmite Netflix show, Emily in Paris, and were fascinated by her trip to a digital Monet exhibition in the French capital, get your best outfit on and hot-foot it to Souk Madinat Jumeirah to have your own, digital masterpiece moment.

Taking place at Dubai’s first, fully-immersive art space that launched just last month, the premiere exhibition hosted at Theatre of Digital Art (ToDA), Souk Madinat Jumeirah is From Monet to Kandinsky, Revolutionary Art –  a first-of-its-kind presentation of classical art in digital format. Lasting 45 minutes, the multimedia show features the most important art movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, showcasing masterpieces by art world icons including Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Wassily Kandinsky, Georges Seurat, Paul Cézanne, Edvard Munch, Juan Gris, Robert Delaunay and Paul Klee, and is nothing less than spellbinding.

Selected works depicting diverse modernist movements such as Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Pointillism, and Expressionism are on large-scale display at the theatre, including Munch’s Scream, Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Blossoming Almond Tree, and Monet’s Water Lilies.

As a sensory experience art space, ToDA’s VR space incorporates 3D, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, including a range of inspiring, entertaining, and educational activities – from painting masterclasses where visitors can bring famous artworks to life, to unique artefacts and immersive experiences. Truly mind-blowing, with tickets priced just Dhs75 for adults and Dhs45 for kids, we can see ourselves visiting over and over again for a total, cultural spine-tingler. We defy you not to love every second of it.

For more information, check out @todadubai on instagram or visit www.toda.ae.

*Aligning with Dubai-wide health and safety guidelines, while ToDA can ordinarily host up to 500 guests, it will begin operations at a reduced maximum capacity of 120 visitors with regular facility-wide sanitisation programmes.

SHOP SUSTAINABLY IN THE SUNSHINE

Sustainably-focused retail therapy in the sunshine sounds right up our street – so we’ll be heading to the Ariel PODS Swap Shop at Breakout DXB this Friday to bolster our wardrobes guilt-free.

Part of a brand new music, culture and arts festival which celebrates homegrown talent and has been designed to reignite the city’s live music and entertainment scene, Breakout DXB takes place at ROVE Downtown this Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, with the Ariel PODS Swap Shop on-site to raise awareness about fashion sustainability.

Encouraging visitors to swap pre-owned items of clothing for preloved items, guests will be asked to bring pre-owned items of clothing and an empty bottle of liquid washing detergent with them to swap for another pre-loved item of clothing and a pack of Ariel PODS. Ariel will then wash the donated clothes with Ariel PODS, drying and pressing all items, creating a mini pop-up swap shop for guests to choose their new pre-loved item of clothing from. Which basically equates to a being gifted a sustainable fashion item for free!

With a host of performances from top-notch local artists happening throughout the weekend, the event takes place both indoors and out, and will have a fun, ‘festival vibe’ – all in a safe, socially distanced way, of course.

Tickets cost Dhs249, including a food voucher to use at a range of pop-up food stalls.

Breakout DXB, Rove Downtown, Fri Nov 6, 11am to 11pm. Dhs249. For more information, visit instagram: @breakoutDXB. For tickets, visit: www.platinumlist.com.

FANCY A BIT OF BLINDFOLDED YOGA?

We’ve heard of goat yoga, laughing yoga and rave yoga. But how about blindfolded and sound-off yoga? As Dubai Fitness Challenge continues, if you’re keen to try out a rather more off-beat class, head to Gate Avenue at DIFC, where the yoga experts from Inspire are hosting an unusual twist on the ancient practice with a blindfolded and sound-off class this Saturday afternoon.

Kicking off at 4pm, Yoga Under The Gate is a 90-minute signature Vinyasa class which aims to cultivate inner awareness and the skills necessary to embody true resilience. The sound-off yoga experience includes a blindfolded segment, where each participant will be given a set of wireless, noise-cancelling headphones to tune into what the instructor is saying and tune out of any interruptions.

Based upon the premise that when people are deprived of one sense, the other senses naturally heighten, the class invites participants to trust only in themselves. Designed to aid in the discovery of the ability to cope with the unexpected, the practice also promotes improved physical strength, balance, and clarity of mind.

Completely free of charge, all you need to do is pre-register to book your place in the class – visit Eventbrite to guarantee your mat space.

*Keeping the safety and wellbeing of visitors as a priority, the class will operate adhering to strict public health procedures, and held in accordance with the Dubai Government’s health and safety guidelines.
