You, But Better: The Gaggler Agenda for November

Mark your calendars.

November 1: Test Your Palate

If you love chocolate and drink coffee, but have no idea what the term “single origin” means, the Coffee & Cocoa Pairing Workshop is perfect for you. Hosted by artisanal chocolate factory Mirzam, it compares and contrasts four coffees together with four cocoas, exploring the different flavour notes, followed by a tour of Mirzam’s fascinating chocolate-making facility. Word to the wise: be sure to try its Emirati Honeycomb while you’re there.

November 3: Journey to Africa

A combination of dance, poetry, percussion, and six courses of delicious authentic West African food – all of which are vegan – will translate into an unmissable night at Cubano Lito. Join Veghana for a very special pop-up set to celebrate Fela Kuti, a Nigerian musician credited with inventing Afrobeat, an African music genre that combines traditional Yoruba percussion and vocal styles with American funk and jazz.

November 5: Stretch, Bend, Birdwatch

A workout like no other, Rainforest Yoga at The Green Planet transports you out of the city’s frenzy and into a tropical environment surrounded by 3,000 different species of plants, animals, and birds. Led by Core Direction, the 60-minute yin yoga and meditation class will be accented with the soothing sounds of birds chirping, making it all the more therapeutic – and a lot more memorable than your average studio session.

November 8: Dive Into Design

Design buffs have reason to celebrate once again as over 250 events and activities will be staged at Dubai Design Week, the region’s largest creative festival. Expect everything from architectural installations and talks to temporary pop-ups, workshops, and even children’s activities. As for highlights of the 2021 edition? There’s a key focus on supporting the creative community of Lebanon this year, so both rising and established Lebanese design talent will be showcased throughout the festival’s programme.

November 13: Process Your Emotions

Considering art therapy encourages individuals to express themselves creatively through art in order to improve their emotional well-being, making the Process Art workshop at Jamjar perfect for adults who aren’t quite ready for the conventional approach. The first session (November 13) will be rooted in the power of thought while the second session (November 27) will be anchored in meeting the higher self, collectively allowing participants to paint away any negative emotions, using tactile movements and a variety of tools like string and water spray to create layered works in acrylic paint.

November 15: Heal Yourself

We may not realise it, but any suffering and false beliefs on the part of our ancestors affect every level of our being. Enter: the Ancestral Healing Workshop with Dilyara at Seva, during which deeply rooted patterns will be transformed at the source where they began. Ancestral healing addresses issues not only mental reframes – relieving the emotional self in the process – but also helps participants heal their ancestral anguish and start anew for the generations ahead.

November 19: Hit the Dunes

The Liwa Desert Trekking Retreat remains one of UAE Trekkers’ most popular offerings – and for good reason. For starters, the Liwa region is breathtakingly beautiful. You’ll arrive at the retreat on Friday night and have dinner under the stars before embarking on a two-hour moonlit hike. The following day will bring with it a sunrise hike, roughly 3.5 hours with a goal of 10km, before returning to camp for lunch and a dip in the onsite spring-fed pool. What’s not to like?

November 22: Reimagine Education

Continuing its Autumn series, Yoga House will be screening Inside Montessori, a 2018 documentary that reframes the educational method conversation toward creating learning environments that allow children to achieve their full potential. The proven developmental and child-centred practices of Montessori education can support all children – regardless of background and learning style – in having the opportunities to flourish in learning and in life. This one’s a must-watch for parents questioning traditional education models.

Explore a side of the city that you may not know with the Dubai Souks and Creekside Food Walk by Frying Pan Adventures. Not only will you only cover the must-dos of Old Dubai – think: the spice souk, the textile souk, an abra ride, and the storied Old Fahidi neighbourhood – along a four-hour route, but you’ll also savour everything from beloved street snacks and tangy Indian treats to indigenous Emirati dishes, thereby broadening your culinary horizons.
