So, where to start? Well, as Evelyn explains, there’s a lot to consider. From the shape of the hat and the size and colour, to how large the brim is to the trim – not to mention your outfit and other accessories.
The first thing to consider is your overall face shape.
Luckily for those with oval-shaped faces, just about anything goes, so feel free to experiment. If you’ve got a long-shaped face, you’ll want to choose something that helps balance out your features. A fascinator is ideal. Small and petite, a fascinator can be positioned to the front, back or sides of your head, depending on what works best for you.
Whatever your face shape, proportion is key. If you have a thin face, you’ll want to go for a full brim. If you have a broad face, go for a taller hat to help elongate. The same goes for trimming – whether short or long, trimming should be in proportion to the length of your face.
Other tricks you can use include playing with colour. Go for block colours for an exaggerated look or use different colours to help balance your style. Or play around with angling. Simply tilting a headpiece can help create a dramatically different look. Play with asymmetrical looks to see what works best.
