5 SS21 Trends To Love Right Now
The new season is well and truly here...so let’s celebrate wearing five awesome trends guaranteed to raise a smile from now until autumn
Barbie is fashion’s new muse. Pink, in every shade you can imagine, is the hottest shade of the summer, and if ever there was a colour to make you feel fabulously frivolous, this is it. Go girlie and frou frou with ruffles and frills a la McQueen, Isabel Marant and Molly Goddard, or adopt a cooler vibe, as seen at Valentino and Prada with oversized suiting and tailored separates that take the girlie edge off, but still raise a smile. Wear top-to-toe for the most impactful take – or take your cues from Chanel and wear with classic black. Clashed with a classic red lip, and you’re set for an unashamedly awesome outfit day.

24 HOUR DISCO DIVA
So partying really isn’t on the agenda for now, or anytime soon. But there’s nothing like a little sparkle to cheer up your look – regardless of whether you’re working from home, or having an impromptu kitchen dance-off as you cook dinner. At virtual fashion weeks in all four capitals, the new season’s crop of sparkly numbers nodded towards relaxed glamour – with a distinct theme of ‘wear-at-home-now, re-wear-at-the-biggest-party-on- the-planet-once-the-pandemic-finally-leaves-us. Celine offset red carpet-perfect sequins with a baseball cap and sneakers, Louis Vuitton and Paco Rabanne paired their sequins with basic t-shirts, while at Balmain, Olivier Rousteing’s high-octane, slit-to-the-thigh sequin gowns were worn barefoot…just the thing to slip on whilst you hoover the sitting room with your favourite party playlist blasting at top volume.

Skinny jeans will forever be a part of a well-dressed woman’s style arsenal regardless of what those millennials on TikTok claim. But if the thought of tight denims leaves you cold (or anything tight, for that matter) embrace the season’s love for wide-legged, high-waisted trousers and jeans with gusto. Super-flattering and a great way to transition from athleisure to real clothes, wear with a sleek top that tucks into the waistband and a block-heeled sandal for a modern silhouette that looks gloriously chic as well as supremely cool and comfortable.
IT’S ALL IN BLACK AND WHITE
When there’s so much going on to tax your grey cells, easy fashion is a no-brainer style decision that couldn’t be more welcomed. The most simplistic fashion equation there is? Black + white = instant chic. Take your cues from sustainably-focused design goddess Gabriela Hearst’s no-fuss eveningwear that’s so elegant it hurts, Chanel’s crisp and contemporary layering or Dolce & Gabbana’s checkerboard patchwork dresses that utilised fabrics from previous collections – smart, sustainable and super-stylish.
A maxi dress is a Middle Eastern fashion must-have. And luckily for us, the catwalks fell in love with them all over again this season. As seen at Dior, Alberta Ferretti, Valentino, Erdem and Michael Kors, a floaty, floor-swishing maxi in delicate chiffon or timeless broderie anglaise never fails to bewitch is, and while they may not be wafting around our longed-for holiday destinations this summer, a dreamy dress that looks just as glorious at home in the garden as it will when you finally jet off to some Greek island paradise in the coming months/years/whatever is a new season piece you can’t be without.
