What To Do This Weekend In The UAE
From gallery visits and alfresco shopping to Mexican brunch dates and international MMA , how will you be spending this sun-soaked weekend?
Explosive Artworks At Oblong Gallery
Kick off your weekend the cultural way, with a visit to the Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery’s exhibition of the works of Spanish artist Manu Algueró.
Opening this Thursday and running until March 7 at the gallery on Blue Water Island, Dubai, the solo exhibition showcases a selection of 11 abstract paintings, inspired by the artist’s fascination with fireworks and the Big Bang theory, and capturing intense moments of emotion and a desire for new beginnings. With echoes of American abstract expressionism, Manu’s paintings express the beauty of change and new perspectives – particularly poignant as the world undergoes such an enormous moment of unrest – with immense, dramatic canvases displaying not only technical vigor, but an intense study of the human face.
Run To The Ripe Market
Sweating it out, followed by a spot of shopping? Sounds like a great way to start a Friday to us! Taking place at Dubai Police Academy, which also hosts the weekly Ripe Market, January 15 marks the third in The Skechers Performance Run Series. A true sporting event for all the family with 10km, 5km and the 2.5km Family Fun Run categories to choose from, last month’s race attracted participants aged between an incredible 4 and 76 years of age. Post-run, we’ll be hitting up the Ripe Market for a few essential weekend treats, starting with the incredible consortium of stunning fashion, jewellery, and homewares from African artisans.
