Valentine’s Day is almost here, and romance is in the air! Or, at least it should be. If you’ve recently overlooked your living space and it hasn’t received the proper care and attention it deserves, now might be the time to spruce it up. And what better excuse than the day of love?
As sensual beings, to ensure your home inspires romance, you’ll need to cover all your bases, which in this case, will be your senses – sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. We’ll leave the cooking to one side for now, and focus on everything else to make sure each one of those senses is tantalized this Valentine’s.
First is sight. While we’re not talking about redecorating your space, you may want to think about decluttering. You certainly don’t want any distractions from a night of romance so get rid of those piles of laundry and clear tables and shelves of clutter. Replace with fresh flowers or plants, a new picture or other wall hanging and add some low-mood lighting, preferably with candles.
Next, you’ll want to get the space smelling good. If you want to get in the spirit of romance, the right essential oils will work as an aphrodisiac. Try ylang-ylang, jasmine, rose, sage or neroli for the sweet spot.
For something soft to the touch, you can have lots of fun here. From soft rugs for under the feet to silk pillowcases or sheets, these subtle touches are sure to be appreciated when snuggling up for the night.
And finally, you’ll need a romantic soundtrack. Make your own or for a retro touch, grab a CD of old classics.
