Traditionally a day to give thanks to the most important woman in our lives, Mother’s Day is celebrated on 21 March across the Arab world. Perhaps a surprise to some, the tradition is thought to have its roots in ancient Egyptian culture. The goddess Isis was held to be a symbol of motherhood. To honor her, boats would be filled with flowers and floated around Egyptian cities. The custom would be picked up later by the Greeks and Romans and also associated with the start of spring, when flowers began to blossom.
Today, while flowers are still considered a traditional gift, you may want to gift your mother a keepsake. Spoil her rotten with a luxurious gift, something she can pamper herself with, a lovely piece of jewellery, or something for her hobby. If you’re struggling for inspiration, we’ve pulled together this list to help you on your way. Our favourites include a lovely picnic basket, ideal for trips to the beach or desert, and the innovative Jo Loves fragrance paintbrush from scent maestro Jo Malone. Go on – show your mom how much she means to you with our choice of gifts.
