In an ideal world, we all spend a luxurious day at the spa every month, getting primed and treated top to toe… but let’s face it, spas are not cheap. Luckily, you can treat your face to a salon-grade facial right in your own bathroom – all you need is time, your favourite products and an excellent playlist.
STEP 1: Prep
Draw a hot bath and let the steam fill your bathroom. You can also light a candle or two if you really want to get in the zone, and put on some chill tunes. Make sure your nails are short and your hands are clean, slip on a robe and slippers and tie your hair back securely.

Marks & Spencer long pile hooded dressing gown
STEP 2: Cleanse like a facialist
We’re talking spending some quality time with your face and a good quality cleaner or two – no mere rub and splash like you do every night! Start with an oil cleanser to remove all SPF and makeup. Really spend some time massaging it into your skin, paying attention to the areas around your nose, forehead and chin. Follow with a second gentle cleanser and again, spend a few minutes to gently massage it into your entire face. Rinse off using a soft bamboo flannel or muslin.

STEP 3: Exfoliate
This doesn’t mean scrubbing away till your face is red – try a chemical exfoliant to resurface your skin and get rid of dead skin cells.

Caudalie Glycolic Peel
STEP 4: Steam
Now here’s where it gets real spa-like – and you don’t even need any kind of equipment to do it. Pour boiled water into a large bowl, add a few lemon slices or a fragrant tea bag and let steep for a few minutes. Then drape a towel over your head and the bowl and relax for a few minutes.

STEP 6: Tone
Go in with a few swipes of toner to prep your skin for the next step.

STEP 7: Mask
You can tag team your masks by doubling up – start with a detoxifying clay mask to draw out any impurities and follow with a soothing, hydrating mask. Massage in the excess.

STEP 8: Moisturise
Finally, seal in all the goodness and moisture with moisturiser. Give yourself a facial massage while you’re at it, using your knuckles and gently smoothing them over your face – except your eyes – for a few minutes. Using a tapping motion with your fingers around your eyes. To kick it up a notch, use a jade roller to massage the cream into your skin.
