It’s officially winter in Dubai and that can only mean the festive season is just around the corner! While we may not have snow and log fires, there are plenty of easy ways to make your home feel magical with a few dazzlingly effective and inexpensive decor ideas.
1. Garlands
Garlands are easy to make and look festive, too. Get the kids involved in putting together pretty paper chains made from coloured paper – try Creative Minds for all your crafty supplies or buy paper chain kits from Amazon. Head to Satwa for festive fabric and make your own winter-themed bunting, or opt for a ready-made garland to transform banisters, curtain poles and more.
2. Festive Fruits
Bowls of satsumas, vases filled with deep red pomegranates and platters of walnuts all look gorgeous as part of your winter decor. It’s also affordable and delicious! Stack ‘em up in fun glassware and metallic trays.
3. Twinkly Lights
Nothing says festive like a bit (OK, a lot!) of sparkle – and fairy lights are one of the prettiest and most cost-effective ways of bringing magic into your home. Opt for clear or copper wire and wind them around your banisters, drape around mirrors or pictures, add to your festive fruits (the battery ones are perfect for this) or pin in the shape of a Christmas tree on your wall – there’s almost no space that won’t be instantly transformed with a string of lights or two.
4. Baubles
Whether you’re sticking to a traditional colour scheme or going all-out with pops of pink and other bright, modern hues, spread some festive cheer throughout your home by filling glass bowls with baubles. So simple.
5. Poinsettias and Indoor Plants
A little greenery, beyond the traditional tree, is the perfect way to create a festive wonderland. Go for bright red or snowy white poinsettias (available in December at garden centers and supermarkets), choose a leafy houseplant that can be adorned with baubles and other holiday décor, or buy bunches of eucalyptus that smell as gorgeous as they look.
